Complaint having been made by one Jackson Brooks freedman to the Asst. Comr. B.R.F. and A.L. for Miss that you have in your possession certain Articles of Slate and other goods property of said freed man and which you refuse to restore to him.
I have to request that they will be immediately given up to him or satisfactory reasons for retention of same will be furnished this office by you that a proper investigation of the Case may be made

Complaint having been made at this office by the within named freedmen Otis Simms, Wm Wallace Jno Ross James Everett and Spencer Brown that their is money due them for labor performed under one Wm. Ballard Section Boss M and O. Rail Road I would respectfully request that you will at once investigate this matter and report to this office the cause of delay in paying

of said freedmen as it is asserted by them that the work was done some time in October 1866
