Clark Co Bever Dam April 24th Major J J Knox sir I receive your letter to day which has been on the way some time concerning the boy Isom that I have apprentice to me & that I done it as near the laws of the state as I could & I am very sorry that such a complaint has been maid to the bureau. This boy is about a leven year old & a very smart boy & as I had him before & that he seems to be very well satisfyed with me I feel vere near to him & treat him very kindly I have had him from a very small child & his father is ded & his mother Charlet has in my jugemet as many as she can suppor without this boy [[[[strikethrough]] she [[/strikethrough]] still I am not contrary about it. I want to satisfy bowth sivel & military [[erased]] or [[/erased]] autority. His mother has som four or five children besides this boy & she has no husband & Major if you are not willing & do not think that I can do a better part by him than his mother under the presant circumstances I do not want him; it was mearly for his good that I taken him to raise.
