NARA 969 To Major Knox April 17 1866 Head quarters Maridian Miss Sir when I was at your house I complaind, that Ladson Hickman was holding back and refusing to deliver to me a gir named Nancy the daughter of a freed woman of whom I had hired her you then gave me an order to Hickman to deliver to me the sd girl telling me at the same time that if he failed to give her up if I would write to you that you would send a gurd and take her he refused and I immediately wrote to you by by Col. Allen of Marion Station but the guard never came and on yesterday there come to my house a man who calls himself Capt Gardner with authority signed by G Woodward Justice of the peace in and for Neshoba County Miss... to take Nancy and Milly freed girls whom I had hired of their mother Siller Hickman freed woman and deliver them to the above named Hickma which he promptly did now if there is any chance for me to obtain justice please send me the promised and much desired guard and oblige your most Obt Tesse Boydston B. Nancy is an ilegitimate child Millies father is still living she was born in wedlock the girls both ran away from Hickman and come to me
