NARA 985

Enterprise April 17, 1866

Majr John J. Knox

Sir In accordance with your request I had E.M. Card brought up before me yesterday and investigated the charge & herewith enclose you the evidence & result.

I did not know until after the evidence had been taken that you had delegated R. F. Campbell to watch over the interest of Henry Harris in the case, but as soon as informed of the fact I had him called -

Campbell sent me his letter to you requesting me to endorse his statement. I have no objection to any part of it only where he says that he requested me to send you a copy of the evidence & I promised to do so, I informed him that I had been careful in taking down the evidence with a special view of transmitting it to you when he first came to my office -

verry Respectfully
Your Obt Servt
Chas. F. Mayerhoff
