Sir:
In answer to your letter of the 12th inst inquiring what disposition is to be made of the "confidential lists" and discharge-certificates sent to you from this office, you are informed that the confidential lists are furnished for the purpose of assisting in the identification of claimants. After they have served that purpose, they are to be carefully and permanently filed as constituting a part of the records of your office.

The discharge-certificates are forwarded in order that a record of payment may be endorsed thereon, and the same delivered to the respective claimants at time of payment of the amounts due them.
