I have this day deposited with the Treasurer of the United States $1057 84/100, to be placed to your credit with the Assistant Treasurer U.S. Charleston, S.C. to pay bounty, &c., to Six Claimants, as per list herewith.
Please sign the inclosed receipt (in duplicate) and return to me at your earliest convenience.

Names are very important. (James McMillan served as the chief disbursing officer of the Freedmen's. Branch from July 1872 to July 1877, ) * &c is very common in these letters... it translates to what we now write as "etc." * These titles are United States Military titles.
