Sir: In answer to your letter of the 12th inst. inquiry what proof of the death of a payee for bounty &c is necessary to authorize the deposit of the funds to the credit of the United States, under the terms of the Circular from this office of February 5. 1873, I have to inform you that in such cases you must exercise your own discretion, accepting evidence, of whatever nature, that may be satisfactory to yourself. In all cases in which the funds may be deposited, the proper heirs, if any are
