NARA 303 War Department, Adjutant General's Office. Washington, March 19, 1874. (Circular Letter.) Lieut J.K. Hyer, 18th Infty Disbursing Officer, Columbia, S. C. Sir: Referring to the paragraph of Circular (copy herewith) from this Office of September 7, 1872, which describes the use to be made of the "Register of Claims," I have to request that you will report to this Office whether you promptly transcribe therein the lists of claims received by you, and if so, whether such record is regularly supplemented with the record of the payment to the claimant, or of such other disposition as is made of the funds in the respective cases, so that said Register shall present, as is designed, a complete and authentic record of all money received and disbursed, whether by payment to the claimant, by transfer, or otherwise.
