Sir: Referring to your letter of the 20th inst. explanatory of your payment of the claim in the case of James B. Haywood, deceased, late Mus. Co E. 33d U.S.C.T., I have to inform you that in order to the proper adjustment of your accounts by the accounting officers of the Treasury, it is necessary that you will forward the receipt or acknowledgment of Christmas Haywood (joint payee with Diana Haywood, to whom you paid the whole amount) attesting the receipt by him of his proportions - one half - of the amount in the case.
