NARA 316

In all cases comprising more than one payee the amount of the claim should be paid to the payees in equal proportions, but in no case should the fractional part of a cent be taken into account. For example; suppose the aggregate sum due three claimants to be $130.67. To two of the payees should be paid, each $43.56, and to the other $43.55.

In cases where one payee may appear for payment, and furnish evidence of the death or remote absence of the joint payee or payees, payment of only the proportionate amount should be made to the claimants or claimants present, and a report of the case should be made to this office for instructions regarding the disposition to be made of the residue of the amount of the case.

The enclosed forms of vouchers are intended to illustrate.
