Sir:
In answer to your letter of January 29th 1874, I have to inform you that the claim of Major Howard, late of Co D. 33d U.S.C.T, is shown by the records of the late Freedmens Bureau to have been settled by Treasury certificate No 491732 for $100, and the amount (less $11.50 attorneys fees) paid to him April 5. 1870.

For information respecting bounty to which he may have become entitled by recent legislation (probably entitled, under Act of March 3. 1873) he should apply direct to
