Sir. I take the liberty of penning you a few lines for to ask you a few questions for my own information.
 
First I understand that Congress has passed a law in March 1873 respecting Bounty money and I [[strikethrough]] whis [[/strikethrough]] wish to know whither I come under that head or not.
 
I enlisted in the 54th Mass. Vols. Company C. Lieut James W. Grace in Command, in Feb 1863, and mustard in March of the same year as 1st Sergant, was mustard out in 1865 on Gallop Isld. Boston Harbor Mass. in September/65 have received a bounty of $100.00 which was paid to me in the later part of 1868. and in March 1869 I was burned out and lost everything including my discharge papers, I then sent to the Adj. General Office at Washington D.C. for a duplicate discharge through Lieut. Stephen Swails, and was informed that the office, gave out no duplicate papers, but the records at Washington could at any
