NARA 45 Franklin Kentucky March 4th 1873 Thos H Vincent Asst Adjutant Genl Washington City DC Sir On the sixth of June 1873 I rec'd a letter from John J Cary Cashier of the National Freedman's Saving Bank and Trust Co. of Nashville Tenn couch'd in the following words viz You are hereby informed that check for paying your Bounty claim has been sent to me and you will be paid the same on being properly identified before me Respectfully John J Cary Cas. I went to Nashville as soon as I got this letter and took H. B. Hall to prove my identification Cary that day informed me he had sent the check back to Washington City on my return home cI had addressed a letter to Genl Howard but never got any answer I desire information as to what has become of it I hope to be relieved of the
