NARA 119 Hopkinsville Kentucky July 19th 1872 Hon W W Belknap Secretary of War Washington D.C. Sir I am the Mother of George Steel who was a Soldier in Co L. of the 115th. Infantry and put in my claim for his bounty with D S Hays of Hopkinsville and I am informed was allowed on the 20 March 1872 $208 or 218.15 as per Cert No 588672 and sent to the Freedmans Bureau and that no effort has been made to pay me I request you will send the Vouchers to D S Hays my attorney I will sign and return them to you and you will then please send my Check for the money to the Care of D S Hays - I put in my Claim with him and it is to him I look for my money and if I am ever to get it I Need it Now.
