NARA 167

[]James Hughes (col) is looking for such a letter as the one received, was the reason the P. M. gave it to him, reading Janey as James. []

Warsaw Ky April 26. 1873
Gen'l A.P. Howe
Louisville Ky.,

James Hughes (col) got a letter to-day from you dated 24, inst., which he brought to me to read for him, and on reading it, I told him that I thought it was not for him, but for Janey Hughes (col). But as there is no Janey Hughes (col) here except his daughter who never made any application for bounty, I don't know who the letter is for, without it is for him (James Hughes) as he is an applicant for bounty in conjunction with his wife Eliza, on account of the service and death of their two sons James & Jerry.

Please answer so that he may know whether the money in question is his or not.

Yours Most Respectfully
L. L. Tiller
