ARTICLES OF AGREEMENT

MADE AND ENTERED INTO this 7th day of June eighteen hundred and seventy three, between Maj. A.P. Howe 4 arty. Disbursing [[strikethrough]] Quartermaster U.S. Army and Chief Q.M. Department [[/strikethrough]] Officer, Freedmen's Bureau, A.G.O., of the first part, and Dippold Sons and Goose, Louisville, of the County of Jefferson State of Kentucky of the second part.

This Agreement Witnesseth, That the said Maj. A.P. Howe for and on behalf of the 
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,
and the said Dippold, Sons and Goose their Heirs, Executors, and Administrators, have mutually agreed, and by these presents do mutually covenant and agree, to and with each other in the manner following, viz:

FIRST. That the said Dippold, Sons and Goose shall furnish and deliver to the coal house of the Disbursing Office, Freedmen's Bureau A.G.O. at Louisville, Ky. between the 1st Oct. 1873 and the 30th April 1874, in such quantities and at such terms as shall be requested by the Disbursing Officer aforesaid, Twelve (12) tons of the best Pittsburgh screened coal and one and a half (1 1/2) cords of first cut dry kindling wood.     

Second, In consideration whereof, the said party of the second part shall recieve at the rate of four dollars and seventy five cents (4.75) per ton for the coal and ten (10) dollars per cord for the kindling wood.
Payment to be made on or before the 30th June 1873 if funds are on hand for that purpose; otherwise when they are received.

Thrid, In the case of failure, the party of the Second part as above stipulated, then the said party of the first part shall have power to cause the same to be purchased in open market and the said party of the second part shall be charged with the difference of cost.

Fourth. No member of Congress shall be admitted to any share benefits herein, or any benefit to arise therefrom.

Fifth. It is expressly understood that this contract is made subject to the approval of the [[strikeout]] Department Commander [[/strikeout]] Adjutant General U.S. Army.
