Barbourville
Sir
Joseph Cains claim for bounty was presented by me and was settled by the 2d Auditor U. S. Treasury last March giving him $100 bounty. The rule was that on claim being settled, the disbursing officer of the Adjutant General U. S. Army notified the claimant to call him at Lexington Ky or at some point near & I find in a number of cases the men
never cal'd [[called]] at the Post office & of course the letters were returned to Washington. & I suppose that was the case with J Cain= all you can do is now to wait until the disbursing officer returned to make next distribution of bounties when that [[strikethrough]] is the case[[/strikethrough]]will be, I cannot tell, as the departments have suspended settlements for the present— perhaps the disbursing officer had not got Cains name on his list & in this case he will get a letter addressed Barboursville Ky. Post office telling him [[strikethrough]] to cr [[/strikethrough]] where to go to to get his money let him call once a week on the past month
