Respectfully referred to Captain H.S. Hawkins 6th Infty, Disbanding officer, Nashville, Demo. For such investigation as may be practicable without incurring expense of travel, with the view of determining as to the identity of the writer- (William Hollins)- of the endorsement on the enclosure hereto.

For the purpose of aiding investigation a confidential list in the case is herewith enclosed.

As an attempt was made to procure payment from Major Howe of the proceeds

Of certificate No 604100 issued in favor of William Hollins, late Pvt. Co. A. 40th USCT, by a person who falsely claimed to be said soldier, it is desired that the investigation by Captain Hawkins shall be thorough and careful and that full report thereof be made to this office, returning these papers.
