Respectfully returned to the Adjutant General U.S.A. with information as follows,

Emalin Smith filed her application as the mother of John Smith Co. E 117th U.S.C.T. for arrears of pay and bounty, in May 1876. In her declaration she stated that her son volunteered at Covington, Ky. about the 25th of August 1864, and that he died at Brownsville, Texas, on or about the 1st of August 1865. She gave as last residence, Burlington, Ky.

Alfred Webb and Samuel Gaines, both of Boone County, Ky, in their affidavits say that they
