Washington D.C. Jany 12" 1878.
Asst. Adj. General U.S.A.

Refers to the claim of George Washington late private Co. G. 46 U.S.C.T. and states that W.H. Rogers of Helena Arks. the attorney in the case, under date of July 21/74, wrote a letter relative to the claim of Mary, widow of Geo Washington G. 46th C.T. thereby implying that the soldier was dead. He was informed that in order to action in the case, he should, if the soldier had died, furnish this office with evidence of the fact. Under date of Nov 9th 1877, a letter was addressed to his office from one S.I. Clark of Helena Arks, which was written at the request of the soldier, who had been sick. The letter is the basis of action in sending on the claim for payment. Enjoins extreme care in determining identity.

Rec'd at D.O. Jany 16th 1878.
