NARA0077

Clarksville July 28th 1878

Capt Hawkins
Sir
Yours of the 26th inst, in which you state: ("I have no claim for the father of General Carroll, the amt due him, was transferred on August 28/77 to the Chief Disbursing Officer at Washington D.C. The father should make a new claim to the second auditor for the amount")

Are you not mistakened in the father's being the claimant instead of (Joe Bryan) the brother, in the case.

Messrs Gilmore & Coof Washington D.C. , Atty. in this case say to me "settled by second auditors certificate No 631130 for $68.33, $300 not paid no appropriation" Can you not order back and transmitted or transferred to chief Disbursing Officer, in the event you are mistakened as to claimant Joe Bryant is well know, to me, and will be on hand when wanted

Very Respectfully
J Cobb
