Captain H.S. Hawkins 6th Infy
Disbursing Officer

Captain:

Referring to your letter of December 7. 1877 in which you report having received information that Charles Simmons, late Private Co. G 109th U.S.C.T., whose claim for bounty was settled by certificate No. 592.093, had enlisted in the 9th U.S. Cavalry: I have to inform you that Charles H. Simons is the only soldier now serving in the 9th Cavalry whose name is at all similar to that of the soldier first referred to and that it is found, upon investigation, that he was not in the service during the war.

Very respectfully,
