Gibson County Tenn March 4th 1878

Dear Sir it seems that you are not satisfied that I am the person that I represent myself to be I will give you a statement of where I join The army & where I went with the army I join the 54 Mass Regiment in Boston company K When we left there we went to Hilton head South Carolina to reinforce General Stevens The first place that we landed was at a place [[?]] Bouford South Carolina and the next place that we landed was on James Iland we had a fight there on Friday morning & had to leave & we landed on Mars Iland on saturday running & charge on a Fort by the name of Fort Wagner in front of Fort Sumter &  I we staid there
