Joel Byers Pvt, K Co., 117 Regt. U.S.C.T. was born in Connersville Ky, was enlisted the 21 day of Sept., 1864, at Covington Ky, by Captain E. H. Samuel and was mustered in the 21 day of September, 1864, at Covington Ky, by Capt. E. H. Samuel, for 3 years.
At the time of enlistment he was 21 years old, and 5 feet 6 3/4 inches in height. He [[strikethrough]] was discharged [[/strikethrough]] (or died) 22 day of Dec, 1866, at Brazos Santiago Tex.; Capt. O. C. Bryant was commanding officer, and James Emory, First Sergeant at time of soldiers death. The following are the names of one or more of his company who enlisted at or about same time and place: John Bell enlisted 21 day of September 1864, and James Martin enlisted 21 day of September, 1864.

Joined at original organization. Absent sick at Point of Rocks Va. from Feby 26 1865 to Aug 31. 65. Present sick Aug. 66, Absent sick in Post Hosp. Brownsville Tex Oct. 15, 66. Died of Chronic Diarrhea in Post Hosp. The soldier was a single man at time of death.
Slave of Perry Byers. Nowhere borne as Joel Boyers. Occupation Farmer, Eyes Blk Hair Blk Complection Black.
