I hold the receipts of the within named Brown, for the rent alluded to up to January 1st 1868. and will forward the January rent to him as soon as I receive it Every dollar due from the Bureau to Dr. Brown and every body else having connection with this office has been paid and the business of this office, as a general thing done as promptly as possible. If Dr. Brown (who is the author and writer of the letter enclosed) was as zealous and earnest in his (pretended) efforts to elevate the colored race as he is in the collection of the rent alluded to, the rapid intelectual and moral advancement made by those under his instruction would challenge the admiration of the civilized world.
