C.T. does not appear on my list of claimants to be paid The remarks contained in my letter of July 1.73 in reference to the case of Simon Johnson apply to the case of John Pearl. In reply I beg leave to inform you that none of the names mentioned in your letter have as yet reached my office for payment. When they do the claimants will be informed through you. I have no copies of the law relative to the collection of Bounties that I can send you. You will find all the laws upon the subject in the U.S. Statutes at Large. Under date of April 23.73 I furnished you the same information in relation to the claim of Mack Mills. All these addresses are carefully preserved and you will [[?]] claims reach us While I am glad to furnish all information in my power relative to the claims of colored soldiers and [[?]] for bounty except I can not be burdened with unnecessary correspondence. Gatewood Thomas Pvt I, 46 C.T. No. of Treas Certificate 604286 Amt $156.53 Taxes 1.50/10 [[?]] 245.03 [[?]] Discharged Branch Hannah mother of Branch Isam Sgt. K. 46 C.T. 604287 $238 $2.50/10 $225 50/ Mr. Gilbert Mayers of Memphis Tenn appears as Atty in both cases. Mr. Gilbert Mayer has this day shown to me a letter from the 2nd Aud. dated May 26.73 addressed to Hannah Branch in his care stating the Treas. Certif. No. 604286 for $256.53/ had been issued payable to her order being for pay & bounty due Thomas Gatewood late Pvt Co. I 46 C.T. While on my list as mentioned it appears that this Treas. Certif. No. 604286 was issued in favor of Thomas Gatewood. Mr Moyers informs me that Thomas Gatewood is dead and that he (Mr Moyers) filed the claim of Hannah Branch as sister of Thomas Gatewood for pay & bounty due him. I respectfully request that I may be informed in whose favor the Treas. Certif was issued and to whom I am to pay the proceeds thereof. I have the honor to be Sir Very respy yr obdt servt. Geo.
