T.M. Vincent A.A.G. &c Col: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your telegram of this date stating that authority had been forwarded me this day authorizing me to suspend payments until Oct 1st next & to absent myself until that date. Whilst I appreciate the thoughtfulness of Dept. in making the offer at this time (I certainly having passed through a very unhealthy period at this station for several months past) yet inasmuch as the health of the city has improved considerably of late, & as I am continuing to make some payments (having paid two today) I would respectfully suggest that I be permitted to delay availing myself of the permission to leave here until the 1st day of Sept. In fact I had thought of making an application towards the end of the present month, to be permitted to absent myself from my duties from the 15th of September to the last day of October for two reasons. The first is, that cholera in this region has heretofore been followed by Yellow fever which only disappears after the first heavy frost occurring towards the middle to latter end of Oct. My second reason is that the claimants from what I hear will be too busy with [[?]] to come in before my return - if ever then. Under the circumstance then & feeling confident my absence from my duties here [[?]]
