Genl. &c Sir In compliance with Circular from the War Dept A.G.O. dated Feb 5, 73 I have the honor to transmit herewith Certif of Dep. No 5271 in the 1st. Nat. Bank Memphis Tenn. dated Aug 16, 73 for $41.25, this being the amt of the claim of Samuel Haley late Corp. Co. B. 61. C.T. as per Treas Certif No 335970 less Atty & Notarial fees. I am in possession of an affidavit stating that Samuel Haley is dead I have the honor to be Sir Vry respy, yr obdt servt Geo Gibson Maj. 5th Inf. D.O. 3 Memphis Tenn. Aug. 16, 73. Mr. John M. Bass Nashville Tenn Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 14th inst. In reply I beg leave to inform you that the claims of Christopher Patterson & Daniel McCage have not as yet reached my office for payment. My business here is simply to pay such claims as have already been allowed by the Treas. Dept. & sent to me. Hence I am unable to inform the above named persons further in regard to their claims. [[illegible]] will address a letter requesting information to the Hon. E. B. French 2nd Aud. of the Treas Washington D.C. he will probably be informed as to the status of his claim. In this letter he should state the Co & regt. in which he served in order that correct information may be furnished him. Inclosed herewith please find returned the receipt of Mr. W. W. McChesney for the certifs of Dis. of these soldiers. It is desirable that the soldiers should preserve these & present them to the D.O. when they come to be paid as it will assist in their identification. Mr John M. Aug. 18, 73. Mr. R. H. Mills Pine Bluff, Ark. Sir: In reply to your letter of the 14th inst. I have to inform you that Henry Woods late Pvt Co. H. 2 C.L.A. can be paid by appearing with two witnesses who served in the same reg. with him at my office Room No 3 Vincent Block corner of 2nd & Court Sts Memphis Tenn before the 20th of the present month. I shall be absent for two months from that date Probably in Nov. or Dec. I shall again visit Little Rock, & Henry Woods can be paid there Very respt yr obdt servt Geo Gibson Maj. 5th Inf. Genl. &c Genl: Perceiving from the List published quite recently that my Clerk Frank H Mills Esqr. has been selected by the President for appointment to a Second Lieutenancy in the Army I write to respectfully express the earnest request that he may be assigned to duty temporarily with me in my office at this place which would obviate the necessity of my requiring the services of a clk for the time [[?]] I would beg leave to state [[illegible]]
