Sir;
The claim of Harriet Taten widow of Willis Taten late of Co. "D" 59. C.T. is in my hands for investigation. For this purpose it will be necessary for her to present herself at this office any day before the middle of next month except Jan. 26th bringing with her if possible the affidavit of two men who know Willis Taten belonged to Co. "D" 59. C.T. and can also swear that the claimant Harriet is his widow. They should also state in their affidavit whether or not Willis Taten had ever any other wife than Harriet. She should further bring with her an affidavit from Mrs Sally Cartwright setting forth who owned Harriet and Willis Taten before the war; where, when and by whom they were married; and if she knows what Comp'y and Regt. Taten served in she should state it.
Upon the claimant presenting herself with these affidavits I will examine her in regard to the case and forward the result of my investigation to Washington.

Dear Sir;
Your communication of date of Jan. 13th just received. The information relative to George Sykes and his alleged wife Mimazena should be furnished me embraced in affidavits to be forwarded by me to the Treasury Department at Washington. The case is not to be decided by me but by the 2nd Auditor at Washington.
As requested in my letter to you of Dec. 18th your affidavit should give their testimony on the points and according to the order prescribed by said letter. You do not state [[?]]

or sisters who may be living, or even if dead what their names were Follow the order prescribed in my letter with a view to furnishing a complete history of the case. You will perceive nothing short of affidavit properly sealed will suffice in the case.

I enclose herewith a list of names of men belonging to the 5th H. Arty. whose residence is given on the records of Col. Moyers, Claim Agent as "Memphis, Tenn." Mr Moyers thinks it. probable that several of these men can be found.
The man mentioned in your letter of the 15th inst as having seen Joseph Manny "often in the army" will suffice for one witness if he is able to swear to Manny's Comp'y and Regt.

You wrote me Jan. 13. that the balance of the money due Elizabeth Griffin had that day been transmitted to the bank at Little Rock to be placed to my credit.
Up to the present moment I have received no affidavit or private information that said money has been received by the bank for me. I write you therefore not to have Elizabeth Griffin appear on the morning of the 26th unless you know beyond all question or doubt that the whole sum of which the old woman was defrauded has been faithfully [[?]]
