'76 Certificate of deposit for $290.62 (deposited Jan. 31. '76 to credit of U.S.) rec'd back from Sec'y of Treasy. Mar. 7. '76 on account of error. Amended account for January & forwarded accordingly Adjt. Genl. U.S.A. Washington, D.C. Sir; I have the honor to report my balance of public funds on deposit and in hand at the close of the week ending Saturday Feb. 12. 1876 as follows; With the Asst. Treas. U.S. at New York $69461.24 With the 1st Nat. Bank, Memphis, Tenn. 12507.23 Total amount 81968.47 Very resp'y y'r obed't serv't Geo. Gibson Maj. 5th Inf. D.O. Memphis, Tenn. Feb. 12. '76 Henry Graftenreed (cld) Stanton, Tenn. Your claim for bounty as Pvt of Co. "H" 6 H.A. is in my hands for investigation. For this purpose you should forward me an affidavit in reference to the following points; The Comp'y & Regt. you served in; when and where you enlisted and the name of the officer who enlisted you; when and where you were discharged and the name of the officer who was in command of your Co. on that day also the name of your 1st sergeant; the names of your Company & Principal Musicians; the name & residence of your owner at the time you enlisted; the names of your father and mother and, if you ever had a sister, her name and if alive her present residence; where you filed your claim and the names of your identifying witnesses on that occasion. Let an affidavit in reference to the above facts made also by two men, testifying to such points as [[?]] and forward all of said affidavits to me. '76 Sir; I have received your statement of my disbursing account dated Jan. 31. 1876 and find the balance therein reported to be correct. Colonel; I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of date of Feb. 14. calling my attention to the fact that from my Account Current and Abstract of Deposits for the month of Jan ultimo and my Weekly Report of Payments for the week ending 5th inst., it being that in the case of Harry & Betsey Sanders as parents of John Sanders late Pvt of Co. F 61. C.T. I had deposited to the credit of the U. States under date of Jan'y 31 Ultimo the sum of $88 50/100 being $3. 00/100 in excess of the amount of said claim sent to me from the Freedmen's Branch also under date of Oct 1875.
