Nashville Tenn.
Sept. 16th 1873

Adjutant General
U.S. Army
Washington
D.C.

Respectfully returned with the report that the person who represents himself as being Mike Oliver, presented himself at my office with two men to identify him. Their affidavit is herewith enclosed.
These men are vouched for as being trustworthy & truthful by the Janitor of the Office (Wm Lytton) who says he has know them for years, and is sure they would not testify to anything false.
I questioned these men rigidly and they are firm in the assurance that the man is really and truly the identical Mike Oliver, who served in Co. G. 13th while they served in Co. C. of the same Regt.
The claimant himself seemed to be an unusually stupid specimen of his class, and absolutely knows nothing of his own military history as will be seen by his answers to Mem. form 41. enclosed.
Still I am satisfied that he is the man he claims to be.
