5th Inf. D.O.
Memphis, Tenn.

Sir
I would respectfully state, in my reply to your letter of the 2nd inst. that only eight "Identification papers", of all the Claimants notified, have been received up to date.
I will make if you require it, on the 15th a schedule of claimants heard from also of others who may be expected, and will send it to you.
I could give you, at present, in sound numbers the probable gross amounts to be paid in both places, and should you get "letters of Credit" from you Bank to the 1st Nat. of Nashville and to the Giles Co. Bank of Pulaski it would there be the means of saving you both great inconvenience and risk.
You could bring your check book with you and draw a check on your Memphis bank for each voucher, and the Nashville and Pulaski Banks would cash those, and there endorse on your letters the total amount drawn and return these together with your checks to the Bank at Memphis after charging the Bank with the amount.
If you think best to adopt this plan, which we have proved to work will in every respect, then please let me know and I will send you, by return mail, the probable total amount to be paid at both places.
Very respectfully, Your obedient servant.
