---------- Reopened for Editing 2025-02-18 15:30:54 Don't put in extra empty rows. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2025-02-22 16:14:55 Really had to fix up some entries, adding correct abbrev. spellings etc... --------- Reopened: TO ADMINISTRATOR and others: The "Freedmen Bureau Field Office Staff List" for Fort Monroe, VA - states "S.L. Armstrong" as an Agent - beginning in Apl 1867. He had been a Supt. from Sept '66 to Apl '67 in Fort Monroe, Va. He headed a new school for Freedmen in that area as well. HOWEVER!!! His name should be S. C. Armstrong - Samuel Chapman Armstrong. Very well-known person in that area at the time, and in the Freedmen's Bureau, as well as important part of the Education of Freedmen. This document page looks like "A. T. Armstrong." No info comes up for A.T. Armstrong and Freedmen's Bureau. Samuel Chapman Armstrong - found a book about his life & found encyclopedia content, and other information found online about this man. He moved to a house in Hampton, Va., within a few miles of Fort Monroe, while working there at the time in this document. This is documented. SO!! I believe that the list for "Freedmen Bureau Staff" is not correct. It should be listed as "S. C. Armstrong" on the list. I have NOT been able to find any info on a "S. L. Armstrong" being in the Bu. of R.F. and A.L., or S. T. Armstrong. We see "S.C. Armstrong" on other letters transcribed so far in various volumes. Could this correction be made in the list, after Administrators research into this supposed error? I do see that further down the page, there is "S.C. Armstrong" and an Agent. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2025-02-22 17:09:15
