Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of communication of James W. Lambert relative to claim for bounty of Malvina Housler sister of Robert Turner, late pvt Co B 58" U.S.C.T., settled by certificate No 575625, referred from your office June 23 1873 with remark that funds to pay the claimant were sent to me April 10 1873, and to state that claimant was paid by me at Natchez, Miss June 18, 1873

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 21' inst, enclosing your check No 738163 on the Assistant Treasurer U.S. in this city, for $3018 86/100, to pay bounty &c in cases of 18 claims, papers pertaining to which even also enclosed with said communication Receipt, in duplicate, for the sum named is respectfully returned herewith.

Sir:
In the matter of the claim of James Dickson, of Natchez, Miss, Successor to S.M. Preston, for reimbursement of certain moneys alleged to have been advanced to Eliza Cox, widow of Calvin Gathon late pvt Co A 5 USC. HA whose claim for bounty &c was settled by Treasury Certificate No 517013, and concerning which instructions were communicated to me in letter from your office dated May 28 1873, I have the honor to report that upon the claimant presenting herself to receive the amount of said claim I asked her if she owed to any person any portion of the money which she expected to receive, to which she replied, in substance, that she was indebted to S. M. Preston, to the amount of $30.00 having borrowed that sum of him. 
This statement claimant afterwards made in the form of an affidavit which is enclosed herewith, as is also Statement of S. M. Preston, in relation to the matter, and paper enclosed to me in your letter of 28th Ulto
In compliance with your instructions claimant was paid the amount of her claim less the sum of thirty dollars, which was withheld, subject to your further instructions in the matter.
