8.) One may [[underlined]] transpose the entire natural effect of colorite into a mere individual, harmonious colorite. [[/underlined]] Hence I decide to alter the prevailing blue of sky & water into the green (virid + wh) as the small sketch, and introduce much violet in the shadows, as reflex; adopting the strong roseviolett color of the Southern horizon. [[double underlined]] The entire roundabout world, at a certain hour and day, climate, locality furnishes a variety of sky, cloud, local colors from which a more original truthful and [[/double underlined]] pictorial colorite as well as combination of objects may be selected to assist the pictorial rendering of the scene which is the direct motive. Herein lies a source of composition which furnishes a far greater truth and poetry to the pictorial problem than the scene before the eye, immediately.-- For, it becomes more and more decided with me, to [[underlined]] work from the stored up imagination [[/underlined]] and memory of life, and nature, feeling, and [[underlined]] color impulse [[/underlined]], rather, than imitate. Turners mind was filled with romanticism, Claudes with Classicism, Corots with idyllic poetry, into which they converted reality, changing its objects, proportions, or colorite; or all of them [[strikethrough]] at the [[/strikethrough]] simultaneously. [[underlined]] We may similarly [[/underlined]] convert the entirety of present life, feeling, knowledge, philosophy, into pictures, by the above means of proceeding.--
