Stuart building just over a clothing store which occupies the first floor. Dr. Benson had come with me from Hastings. Metz was in his office - pay day. surrounded with many other people. - clerks - attorneys etc.
He was not on his desk but was standing around chatting and joking and mingling in different groups.
His motor car was there too.
Hoffmann - Culman Hugo Lieber [[strikethrough]]and then[[strikethrough]] Plant and three or four other chemists whose name I do not remember had also their motor cars, so that all

the members of the excursion could be accommodated.
Just on starting had some trouble with hot clutch bearings. Got over it by oiling. Then hot right brake. Oiling and loosening fixed that. Then everything went smooth and perfect. We arrived at Willipeque's (Sheepshead Bay) in due time 1:30 P.M. where we had our "shore dinner"
A fine sunny day. Everything went off all right. I noticed that everybody drank very little but a couple of glasses of beer.
Schipphaus wanted to make a speech but they drowned his voice by yells.
Afterwards all drove to Coney Island. Metz seemed to be acquainted with everybody
