[[preprinted]] 160 [[/preprinted]] Lewis fetched me at 10:55 PM at Greystone. Oct 29. Busy all day in lab making Carborundum Bakalite sample for Mr. Tone of [[underlined]] Carborundum Co. [[/underlined]] [[margin]] carborundum [[/margin]] Oct 30. Busy all day making alumdium samples for [[underlined]] Saunders. [[/underlined]] Sent Carborundum samples to Tone for Am. Express with letter as follows: [[margin]] grinding wheels [[/margin]] Oct 30: I received the sample of granul Carbor. and I return you per Am. Exp. prepd the results of my experiments with them The labels on each sample indicates its composition. They are either made with 10% or 4% Bakalite excepting [[margin]] Carborundum [[/margin]] [[end page]] [[start page]] [[preprinted]] 161 [[/preprinted]] the finest powdered sample which does not bind with 4% In all the samples I have tried to use a minimum of Bakalite so as to decrease the cost and specially because I am under the impression that a porous mass is desirable But there is no reason outside of the above mentioned ones why the masses could not be made stronger and more cohesive if more Bakalite is [[strikethrough]] used [[/strikethrough]] allowable. In order to show what can be done I added some samples made with Emeic - Bakalite - paste using the finest grade of Emeic and an abundance of Bakalite or parts of the kind can [[strikethrough]] be [[/strikethrough]] easily be applied to wood or [[margin]] Explicit letter to Tone of Carborundum Co.
