Dear John we received your card of 29th [[?]] and were glad to know that you were all pretty well in health.  I was pleased to see the card written by your own hand and I do hope and trust that through a kind providence your former good health will surely although slowly be restored to you.
You inquire again about the progress of Ollie's portrait.  be assured I have not neglected to give much attention to the picture.  I think I mentioned to you the difficulty of painting a young Lady's features with a shadow over the nearest side of the face.  I could have much easier have given
