as you can well understand is a rather humiliating position.  It seems so much like giving a certificate of character.  
   I agree with you fully about the attack on me.  It seems much worse now when I can look more coolly and comprehensively at the affair - and the mere fact of the man striking me was only an incident because I had there used very strong language (I [[underlined]] never [[/underline]] swear or use profane language) which I meant to be insulting - 
   To me it is not a case of a man losing his temper.  But a deliberate attack by a viciously [[strikethrough]] vindicate [[/strikethrough]] vindictive individual.  
   I was not aware ^from his manner^ when he first commenced ^the disturbance^ (though I thought it strange that he should be ignorant of it) [[strikethrough]] the disturbance [[/strikethrough]] that he knew of the circumstances

under which I was present and so I told him I was there by the President's authority. 
  Learning as I did as the meeting of the board that he had sent out the notices to all of you. makes his conduct such that it is hard to conceive how it was in his power to make it worse.
   I am forced to finish this abruptly (to make a train) but there is enough said - I really feel glad now that the man is dismissed.  His poor wife and family though are up before me so often and [[thus?]] it is mild enough justice.
