SATURDAY, MARCH 29, 1862
Very warm afternoon crossed 
the river and had dress parade of the Wis. 11th. The 5th Ill Cavalry arrived
and crossed the river.

SUNDAY 30
The Regiment crossed the river this afternoon main brigade arrived.

The 38th camped

MONDAY 31

The 21st,38th,5th Cav. and the 16th Battery started south. [[?]] [[?]]
Peach trees in full bloom. [[?]] [[?]]
a couple broke down and left stranded, 
marched 17 miles.

TUESDAY, April 1, 1862.
My first day 21st advance guard bridge.  The ground here is more level and better settled.  looks a little civilized. very warm and dry.  The rebels took flight to the wood.  Marched 21 miles to Doniphan. Were the only ones [[?]] [[?]] 12.  

WEDNESDAY 2

Terrible tornado and thunderstorms.  blew  all the tents down last night and drenched us.  Took [[?]] in finding cover, the cavalry went down to Putnam ferry and South of Pocahontas and got us a lots of stores.

THURSDAY 3
We crossed over the river at night the picket were fired on.  The long roll was
beaten and the whole force was under arms.
