THURSDAY, MAY 1 1862
Marched 10 miles to Powhatton mostly through very lonesome roads and cypress swamps.

FRIDAY 2nd [[handwritten]]
Marched back about two miles then turned south. [[preprinted Friday 2 crossed out]] The 38th and battery ahead. Marched 19 miles and camped in the woods. Water very scarce. The Indiana cavalry reached Jacksonport and had a skirmish with Van Dorns body guard, killing 4 on each side.

SATURDAY 3
Started early and marched 14 miles. Heavy rain.
