Marched 10 miles south and forged across the river with the 1st Indiana and 9th Ills. The 38th Remaining on the opposite bank. [[preprinted Friday 2 crossed out]] The 38th and battery ahead. Marched 19 miles and camped in the woods. Water very scarce. The Indiana cavalry reached Jacksonport and had a skirmish with Van Dorns body guard, killing 4 on each side. SATURDAY 3 Started early and marched 14 miles. Heavy rain.
