Still in New York attempted to get the use of one of the government steamers for the experiments on the Sound  The collector was willing but the steamer as was afterwards understood wanted to convey Mr Seward and family to Albany. The collector Mr King requested me to write myself to the Treasury department - Did so but received no answer. The Light House Board also made application for the steamer but did not succeed.
