Sunday. June 21, 1891
Canebrake Creek, Kern County, Cal.
We left camp at six o'clock this morning, proceeding southward along the stage-route till opposite Walker's Pass. We then took the road to the pass and reached this place at about seven o'clock.
The lowest reading on the stage road was 3200 ft and at this altitude and for a few hundred feet above the main vegetation was [[underlined]] Larrea mexicana, Franseria dumosa, [[/underlined]] and [[underlined]] Dalea [[/underlined]] fremontii.
The following altitudes were taken.
This mornings camp (6:00) (3575) = 2350 ft. = 715 m. 
Indian Wells (11:00) (3800) = 2606 ft. = 795 m. 
Fork, stage road & Walker's pass road (4250) = 3050 ft. = 930 m. 
. [[underlined]] Yucca arborescens [[/underlined]] in wash (4500) = 3400 ft = 1035 m. 
. [[underlined]] Yucca ^[[insertion]] arborescens [[insertion]][[/underlined]] line (lower) on hillsides (4850) = 3750 = 1145 m. 
. [[underlined]] Larrea [[/underlined]] ceases (4900) = 3800 = 1160 m. 
Spring by roadside (5000) = 4000 ft. = 1270 m 
. [[underlined]] Tetradymia spinosa [[/underlined]] abundant (5200) = 4200 ft. = 1280 m. 
. [[underlined]] Pinus monophylla [[/underlined]] begins(north slope (5800) = 4900 ft. = 1495 m
