From Mandan we went east, reaching Elk Run before daylight. From there we went to Minneap. & at St. Paul got a sleeper for Chicago. Delay on account of a freight wreck kept us in Chicago all the afternoon & we visited the Art Institute which we were surprised to find such a worthy mature form of the Metropolitan Museum. Leaving Chicago at 5 P.M. we got into Washington about 24 hrs. later - coming in at the new Union Station, this filled with scaffolding.
