[[start page]](12)(Aug 23d) Continuation of section from page 10 The light gray red caps [[strikethrough]] of this horizon [[/strikethrough]] a ledge of redish sand about 20 feet thick. It is a persistent feature in all the cliffs about Kanab and may be seen up the valley for two miles where it disappears owing to the dip and the rise in the bed of the valley. The section is taken up, two miles above Kanab, just above the grist mill. The strike of the strata appear to be a little s of west (20 degrees) the dip 1.75 degrees n. Above this rests 180 feet of dark red sandstone with thick layers alternating with shales [[strikethrough]] readily [[/strikethrough]] disintegrating. Ripple marks indicate a shallow water during formation. The lighter colored sandstone commences to predominate [[end page]] [[start page]](13) above this and persuing the same rule as at the base of the dip [[?]]. When the character of the succeeding dimension commence to predominate, the line of seperation between the vermillion and white cliff divisions of the [blank]? group is placed here. 25 feet of evenly bedded sandrock (light colored) followed by a massive layer of light gray to redish sandstone which is slightly cross-bedded. This is a strong & well indicated horizon all along the cliffs at Kanab & up the canan for 2 1/2 miles.
