This is a variable bed in 
Color. Just after it makes 
its appearance in the cavern 
the upper stratum is gray 
to buff with deep red partings 
then massive beds of a 
purplish hue and again 
reddish. Five miles below
[[right margin]] 13 - 325 [[right margin]] 
the purple predominates 
at the summit with gray 
red and buff below. It is a 
great mass without any 
regular divisions in color 
or stratification. Near 
the summit a stratum of 
shaly limestone is intercalated 
at one locality 
for a few hundred yards.
