At 4:30 meeting (in room of Wiley) of delegates.  Nichols, Toch, Loeb, Wiley, Dudley Baskerville present.  Elected [[underlined]] Wiley [[/underlined]] our president.  Question was raised whether invitation meant N.Y or Washington.  It was decided that the question we were unauthorized to present altho' Nichols seemed to favor New York.  Decided to call at [[underlined]] Ambassador Whitelaw Reid [[/underlined]] on Thursday at 11 A.M.  Took supper with Celine at Hotel.

Industry in [[Jehandrir?]] Hall Imperial Institute.  Meldola presided.  Tedious meeting.  [[underlined]] Schweitzer [[/underlined]] was present there.  Meldola made a long tedious hackneyed speech on education technical chemist.  [[underlined]] Nichols [[/underlined]] made [[strikethrough]] good [[/strikethrough] excellent remarks on necessity of manufacturers not remaining longer so secretive and spoke much better.  [[Jim? Remsen?]] not elected next President because [[underlined]] Schweitzer [[/underlined]] had inducted him without consulting anybody and probably because [[underlined]] [[Remsen?]] contradicted Wiley on Benzoic acid. [[/underlined]]
