at noon time went to present my list to Nichols himself so as to show that I was not working against Nichols.  N. told me all this was not necessary because it had already been agreed that delegates were going to be elected as provisional committee.  He also told me that in order to take away the sting on [[underlined]] Wiley [[/underlined]] by putting his late antagonist forward [[underlined]] (Remsen) [[/underlined]] he (N) had proposed now [[underlined]] President Elliot of Harvard [[/underlined]]. This means another storm.  Dr. [[underlined]] Day [[/underlined]] of Washington and Dr. [[underlined]] Clarke [[/underlined]] now get mad and say it is an outrage
