Changed clothes quickly at University Club then drove to Waldorf Astoria. Dinner of chemists in town of Chandler Emeritus Professor my table Baskerville, Evans, Dr [[Mer.?]] Armstrong etc. Splendid demonstration makes me feel good to see how fine attributes of a man are worshipped and remembered. Drove back in car. Dr. Zinsser and Head Master of McKenzie School and another gentlemen of Dobb's Ferry. also Toch & Baskerville. Car 
[[margin]]Zinsser got irritated when I reminded him he had not yet subscribed anything for Chemists Club building Co and said he did not want to contribute for a "Club of millionaires!! and that men like Schweitzer (!) were the true friends of Chemists etc. etc.[[margin]]

May 1 Restful beautiful morning. Went for motor drive to Evan's place in Dobb's Ferry with Celine and the children. Afternoon drove to new house of Mandel's. Restful quiet day.
May. 2. Rather busy day, dictating letters etc. Lewis made a run of Solid A.
May 3. Rainy. Lewis drove me and Celine and baggage to Pennsylvania Station 23d street. observation car to Pittsburgh. Weather improves and becomes sunny and warm. Pretty prosperous farms then mountain district. mines and iron works. Squalid houses of miners. Sordid appearance of everything. Devastation of woods by former fires. Johnstown where
