May 9. Sunday morning McCareys with [[Brabl?]] and Henry Fisher took me motor driving around Pittsburgh. Sunny weather pretty green suburbs and environs of Pittsburgh. [[strikeout]] Showed [[strikeout]] Visited house newly bought by McCarey from Curran lately deceased president of National Steel Tube Works. House beautifully situated on hill in three acres of garden. Proportions and construction truly palatial! Went to country Club then drove thru lovely country to a golf Club. This is oil country. Am astonished to see that oil wells are so simple and that this is not the dirty ill smelling ill kept country I imagined. Everything lovely, well kept, good roads and pretty, small farms.
